Long known as one of the most corrupt machine politics cities in the nation  under boss Hague, Smith voted in as a reform candidate was an All American in basketball who briefly played for the NY Knicks. Here in detail he covers just how rotten the city's politics were until Hague was finally kicked out in 1949 & far beyond, (one mayor was known  as "The Hudson County Hitler", another was elected mayor despite not being a U.S, citizen,) & on to the various reform movements into the 1980's Illustrated with 16 pages of photo plates. SIGNED & inscribed "Thomas F.X Smith 38th. mayor of Jersey City NJ" on the ffep.
