The Great Dane Handbook, McCracken, 1995 LOOK!
    THE GREAT DANE HANDBOOK
    by Mary J. McCracken
    Centreville, AL: OTR Pub. 1995.
    hardback. 239 pgs. 1st edition, 2nd ptg.
This really is a lovely book even though I admit that I'm prejudiced since I served as editor on the project. Mary McCracken was a dear person, who sadly died of cancer a few years ago. After years of manning information booths and being involved with activities at her Texas Dane club, she contacted me about doing a book. Mary felt there was a need for a book which provided information for new Dane owners or those considering purchasing the breed. At first she envisioned a short little handbook, but once we put our heads together, we arrived at an outline that ended up providing a great little guide to owning and caring for a Dane.
Mary wrote with passion, enthusiasm and humor about her favorite breed. She was a nurse so she was keenly attuned to health issues and proper care of Danes. What can I say? She was a Dane person through and through. This book is a tribute to both her and her beloved Danes. I miss her.
