The Cat's Meow. Bauer Type Foundry type specimen “For the Friends of Bauer Alphabets, NY”, 1961, designed by Walter Plata. First Edition. Softcover. Unpaginated. 18 pp. Includes original black card envelope. Fourteen woodcuts by Günther Stiller of Weisbaden, Germany, are used to illustrate five literary pieces that are printed using different type specimens. The woodcuts are on the cover, the last page, and accompany each of the 5 different pieces about cats by major authors.The pieces are in their original language and English. The literary pieces are Black Cat by Rainer Maria Rilke, She-Cat by Pierre-Jean de Béranger, Mice Cat and Bell by Hans Sach and Sir Roger L’Estrange, Concerning Love by Josephine Preston Peabody, and the text of Adlai Stevenson’s veto of the “Cat Bill”. Quite a charming and beautifully printed publication.
Book Condition: New. Mint condition.
Envelope Condition: Very Good Plus (VG+). Has sun fading at the edge of one side and a bit of wear to the top edge.
