Barbara Baldwin Lyons (1912 – 2001)
Hardbound in good+ condition with dust jacket, 248 pages includes Contents, measures approximately 5” x 8”, no dust jacket.
The jacket displays a painting, The Brook by Willson Stamper on the front panel, photo of the author and family members at the rear.  It is age toned with rubbing and wear to the edges with a chip to the upper spine.  No price is stated but neither are the flap corners clipped.  It has been placed in an Archival Quality clear film jacket cover to protect it in the future.
The boards basically clean and straight with very little wear, however, there is significant overall foxing.  Perhaps it was stored in a damp or sea air environment.
The interior reveals no such exposure with lovely mapped end pages, contents clean, no particular age toning, firmly
bound and free of previous owner indications, no marks, creases or tears aside from the Authors Dedication on the half title page.
This wonderful journey back in time by Ms. Lyons is complimented by a number of simple sketch-type illustrations.  Rich in descriptions of her childhood years spent in Nuuanu Valley in Honolulu and on Maui at the Haleakala Ranch, managed by the Baldwins.
A rather scarce publication, apparently never having been issued in large numbers, THE BOOK is truly a sleeper.  It is delightful reading for anyone with island interests; for those with connections to Honolulu, particularly Nuuanu Valley or upcountry Maui, it will cultivate memories like no other.
