    Description

SELTZER – SODA WATER – SYPHON BOTTLE
    THE REAL BOTTLING CO.
This auction is for a clear, 12-panel seltzer bottle from The Real Bottling Company of St Louis, Missouri.
Though the city, St Louis, is not etched on or shown on the bottle, I can attest to its association with The Real Bottling Co. of St Louis that was located on 2630 GLASGOW AVE.
This is the only example I have ever seen in this shape.
But there is a round cylinder type that bears the St Louis Glasgow address and I have only seen two of those over many years of collecting.
St Louis Bottle collectors surely have seen crown top soda bottles embossed “The Real Bottling Co.” These are far more likely to show up than a syphon from the company.
Seltzer bottles from St Louis were the first seltzer bottles that I began to collect in the early 1970’s.
At that time, I met Alois Garger, the proprietor of North St Louis Bottling Company, also known as Garger Soda, located at 3434 Klein Street.
I learned a lot about seltzer bottles from “Ollie”.
He talked about the small bottling companies that he competed with in North St Louis and I became familiar with the seltzer bottles from those companies.
One day we toured the North Side and he pointed out exactly where they were located.
The Real Bottling Company was one of them less than 2 miles away.
There was never a question about its authenticity or relationship to the St Louis bottling company.
It is in excellent condition and shows only minor traces of use.
It comes with the original matching top and glass tube.
There is a light haze apparent on the inside and there are a couple of fleabites on the widest part of the bottle at the top.
These show up as very tiny black spots on the shoulder.
If you collect St Louis bottles, this is a unique specimen to add to your collection.
Of all of the St Louis syphons I cataloged; this is the only clear example of this bottle shape from St Louis.
This shape is actually more common in green glass.
One might find examples of this 12-panel mold in green from City Bottling, National Bottling or Tip Top.
Thank you, to look at all of the photos and contact me if you have questions.
