“In 1808 the American ship Topaz, sent a landing party to find water on this tiny shark’s tooth of rock that rises out of the sea a thousand mile from Tahiti. The landing party scaled the rocky height and discovered, on a fertile plateau, a small Presbyterian community of middle-aged women, many children and youths, and one venerable, white haired man, Alexander Smith, sole survivor of the eight mutineers who had taken refuge on Pitcairn’s Island eighteen years before. “
“The idyllic land of the refugees, the planting of the new community, the shortage of wives, the hatred which arose between white men and natives, and the death struggle that brought the disaster to the tiny kingdom are the elements in this extraordinary island chronicle.” - Little, Brown, and Company
PITCAIRN’S ISLAND is the final leg of the Bounty Trilogy written by the most talented duo, James Norman Hall and Charles Nordhoff. Both individuals having been long term residents of the Tahiti area, they were able to record this story with rich descriptions of island scenes and life that made for the creation of more than just a sequel, but a independent tale worthy of its place in literary history.
