Racing & Breeding in America and the Colonies
#458/855 was printed at the Gresham Press in London by the London & Counties Press Association in 1931. The binding is brown morocco, ruled and lettered in gilt. The top page edges are gilt, others uncut and untrimmed. There are 502 numbered pages and 82 photogravure plates from 136 illustrations taken from various sources including engravings, paintings, and photographs. The frontispiece is of the horse Lexington from the painting by E. Troye.
While this book is in very good condition with nice clean interior text and illustration pages, it has some flaws that are described as follows: About 1/2 inch of the borders of the front and back end sheets show browning as does the last page before the back endsheet. There is light foxing on the back and front of the first illustration (the horse Lexington) and tissue guard over that same illustration and light wrinkling to that same tissue guard. There is a light transfer shadow image of the horse Lexington on the title page. There is rubbing to the front and back edges of the spine and browning to about 1/16 to 3/16 inches of the outermost edges of the long edges of those interior pages that are the widest so stick out the furthest. Those pages that do not stick out are not browned at the edges. There are a few small chips to some of those same edges. Three inches of the long outermost edge of the first flyleaf page has chipping to the edge. There are some scuffs to the outside of the back cover. The book measures 12 3/4 inches by 10 3/4 inches and is 3 1/4 inches thick. It weighs 10 pounds 4.5 ounces.
