This listing is for a previously owned as pictured antique English fusee dial wall clock. These clocks were installed in schools, railways, galleries, posts and pubs across the UK. As a result, they have taken their location names and are often call School clocks, railway clocks, gallery clocks, post office clocks and pub clocks. Dial clocks are also a common name. In recent years, they have become increasing desirable for use in the home.They are good time keepers and are very reliable. The movements are excellent quality. They are constructed in brass and feature a fusee design. The fusee incorporates a conical shaped drum that in theory evenly regulates the power output on the spring. The vast majority run eight days on a full wind.
Many of these are found with signed dials. Most commonly, with a name and a location of its owner or owner’s business and installation location.
This is a very attractive example was made in England circa 1891 and is in very good working condition. The brass bezel is fitted with glass and protects the dial. The dial measures approximately 10 inches in diameter. This clock measures 13 inches wide and is approximately 6 inches deep.
