Denmark g
iant silver serving spoon made around 1850 in the city of Hobro. In Danish called a "potageske", used for soup or porridge.
On the back "CM" twice for silversmith Christian Madsen in the Danish city of Hobro. He was silversmith from 1832 until his dead in 1855. The spoon has a later engravement "LJ 31. juli 1884", means initials LJ and date July 31st 1884.
Silver is 11 loedigt - that means 687/1000 (68,7 per cent) silver. That was the silver, the silversmiths outside Copenhagen used in Denmark at that time.
37,5 centimeter and around 225 gram. I have placed a Kennedy Halfdollar on the photo to illustrate the size.
Signs of age and use.
