This is a beautiful commemorative cup made by David Andersen of Oslo, Norway. It commemorates the Atlantic Championship by the Norwegian ship, the M/S Oslofjord. The Oslofjord was built in 1939 and operated until WWII when it hit a mine and sank. The ship was built for the Norwegian American Lines (NAL). A second Oslofjord was built in 1949, however, I believe this cup commemorates the first ship. The cup has an enamel badge which is the flag of NAL and NAL is shown in the middle "band" of the flag. The cup is engraved with "ATLANTERHAVSMESTERSKAPRT" which translates to Atlantic Championship. Also engraved on the front is "! BRIDGE". This cup is hallmarked with D-A, the balance scales mark that Andersen used, and 830S for the fineness of silver. Also shown on the bottom is 5888 and F. I assume that the number is some sort of pattern number. The cup is 3 3/4 inches tall with a graceful line of being larger at the top. The bottom diameter is 1 5/8 inches and the top diameter is 2 7/8 inches. I believe this cup would date to the very early 1940's. The cup has been lightly washed in gold inside. This is a lovely cup that would enhance a collection of David Andersen items as well as that collector of shipping/marine memorabilia. This piece is in excellent condition with no scuffs or scratches. Ship to US only by USPS. International ship by Ebay Global Shipping.
