DIRECTIONS ANTIQUE LEATHER DRESSING BY PECARD LEATHER CARE COMPANY FOR OLDER LEATHER (pre 1970s)
note article in my pictures from Quartermaster Magazine on old holster care,
using this Pecard Antique Leather Dressing, specifically for older (pre 70s) leather.
Please make sure the item is oil tanned and not coated leather. This dressing will not penetrate coated leather.
Allow 12 to 24 hours for the dressing to be absorbed into the leather.
Apply additional treatments in the same manner until a thin layer of dressing remains on the surface. Each treatment allows fibers in the leather to become stronger, softer and more flexible. If leather is extremely dry and stiff, extra care should be taking to not bend or over handle the leather until after a treatment or two when the leather is more flexible. This will help prevent cracking or damage.Due to the density of the dressing, leather cannot over absorb the conditioner. Dressing may also be applied to the unfinished side if it’s accessible. We recommend only one light application to the unfinished side, and that you be aware any nap that is present will be matted down. Remove any excess dressing with a dry, soft cloth and gently buff the surface to a soft sheen. This buffing action melts the blend of waxes on the topmost fibers and helps repel water and dust. Apply follow-up treatments two to four times per year or as needed to maintain proper protection and lubricity of the leather.
